She then appeared in the action thriller film Spartan (2004) and received high praise for her performance in the drama TV film Gracie's Choice (2004).Her first major role was the title character in the teen noir the television show Veronica Mars (2004-2007), receiving critical acclaim as well as an Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television for her performance. The character was reprised in the 2014 film and the new season in the year 2019. Bell starred in the musical Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical (2005) as Mary Lane. This was an re-casting of her New York musical. Bell played a part in Heroes the super-hero drama, as Elle Bishop, from 2007 to in 2008. Bell played the narrator of Heroes in the drama for teenagers Gossip Girl, reprising the role in the sequel in 2021. Bell also appeared as Jeannie van der Hooven, the female lead in the Showtime comedy series House of Lies. She starred as Eleanor Shellstrop in the NBC comedy series The Good Place. This performance led to her being nominated for an Golden Globe Award. Bell also played the role of Eleanor Shellstrop on the streaming series The Woman in the Home The Girl in the Window Across the Street Girl in the Window.
